Oncoming Traffic is an experimental comedy troupe specializing in experimental improv comedy. With its base in Tallahassee, FL, Oncoming Traffic consists of a rotating cast of about 15 Florida State University students and graduates.
For each show, 6-8 players take the stage along with a host. To date the group has played over 100 shows in and around Tallahassee. Mostly found on campus, Oncoming Traffic also can be found playing at Cool Grindz Cafe every Monday at 8:00pm.
The format of a Traffic show varies from week to week with long and short form improv structures being featured. Short form shows are a mix of standard games along with original or modified games and run from 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Always trying to keep audiences interested, Oncoming Traffic has been known to do themed shows and is proud to announce the success of their completely improvised late night talk show, and teen drama (The O.T.) with a sitcom coming to stages soon.
In April of 2004, the group broke the unofficial world record of the longest improv show by a single troupe by playing for a full 36 hours. The event has become an annual one acting as the troupe's birthday celebration, with proceeds going to St. Jude's Children's Research hospital and H.E.L.P. - FSU's own national children's charity. There have been rumblings of doing a 72 hour show this year…Stay tuned for more details.
Armed with a whole lot of nothing, Oncoming Traffic is ready for anything.
